Protect Yourself From Being A Victim Of
Identity Theft by reading this page... |
This page lists, the types of document identity thieves want, ways identity thieves steal your identity, how to protect yourself from having your identity stolen and some alarming statistic about Identity Theft.
Passport Rule Changes: In Australia if a person has two or more Passports stolen or lost they will never be given a Passport again. Instead they will be given travel documents but these travel documents will only last for 12 months instead of the normal ten years as a Passport. Worse still, travel documents cost the same as a ten year Passport.
NB: That means every 12 month you will have to apply for new travel documents and pay the full fee that a Passport would have cost you for 10 years.
Please Note: These Passport rules apply in most countries as the result of terrorism.

Identity Theft - What Is It
Identity Theft occurs when someone uses the identity of another person, living or dead, generally for monetary gain or they use their new identity to commit a crime.
This type of thief does not need to steal your wallet or purse, they just steal your personal information such as a Passport, Birth Certificate or any document they need to become you. An identity thief may take over the victims existing bank account / s or open a new bank account in the name of their victim.
Or the identity thief uses their new identity to apply for credit or buy goods or services or to hide their identity when they commit more serious crimes all in the victims name.
Victims will find it extremely difficult trying to convince their bank or other financial institution that they did not apply for the loan in their name as their identity was stolen and it was the identity thief who applied and received the loan in the victims name.
Victims could spend months or even years trying to
re-establish their credit history and their reputation.
When the name of a deceased person is stolen the relatives become the victims and can experience severe emotional trauma and expense.

The flow on problem is: One way or another we all pay for the crimes of identity thieves via increased taxes, medical expenses, insurance premiums and many unseen government and Bank charges and fees.
You must protect your Passport,
Birth Certificate and any other document
that can be used to steal your identity by
securing them in a Passport Safe. |
Just Imagine If
- Your Passport was stolen and is used by a criminal to escape from the country they committed the crime in or even worse, if it was sold on the black market and was purchased by a terrorist to be used to leave one country and illegally enter the country you live in. What if that terrorist moved next door to you...
NB: In Australia a stolen Passport is worth between $2000 - $5000 and when sold overseas can be worth up to $20,000. Stolen Passports are worth similar amounts in all other countries.
Do you know where your
Passport and Birth Certificate is now... |
Just Imagine If
- Thousands of dollars of stereo or computer equipment you did not buy appear on your next credit card statement?
- Your driver's licence is suspended due to traffic offences you did not commit?
- A debt collector is demanding payment for a car loan you did not apply for?
- Your application for a loan is rejected because you have a history of unpaid bills – which you did not know about because someone has stolen your identity and has used your name to buy products or taken out a loan and not paid any loan repayments.
If any of the above happens to you then
your identity has probably been stolen. |

A Passport or Birth Certificate are more valuable than say a Medicare Card, Cheque Book or even a Credit Card for stealing your identity.
