How To Install The Passport Safe Docking Station

Click here to enter for a chance to win a Passport Safe. Each Passport Safe includes four Removable Insert Boxes. The two centre Insert Boxes have a cut out that is half the height and width of each. This allows up to three Passports and/or a few CD's / DVD's of backed up data to be secured on top and the bottom half of both can be used to secure jewellery, cash, spare keys or other small valuables. These and other items can also be secured in the Insert Boxes at either end. To secure Birth Certificates, Insurance Policies and other documents, remove the first three Insert Boxes, place the documents in the Safe Box then, replace the Insert Boxes. NB: Up to 12 thicknesses of standard 80 gram paper can be placed under the Insert Boxes.

Passport Safe Installation Information

Due to public liability and general insurance reasons we cannot state exactly how to install a Passport Safe Docking Station into any surface.

But what we can do is list ways the Passport Safe Docking Station has been previously installed in various locations by us and purchasers throughout Australia and world-wide. This allows the purchaser to make the final decision about how their Passport Safe Docking Station is installed.

NB: As the Passport Safe Docking Station can be installed to many different surfaces the following covers most known surfaces.

Single Docking Station

The Passport Safe Docking Station can be installed to almost any flat surface and at any angle, even upside down. The Docking Station has 14 pre-drilled holes in it and we recommend what ever type of fixing you decide to use to install the Docking Station you use at least 10 pre-drilled holes to install it, 5 along each side of the Docking Station.

Double Docking Station

The Double Docking Station is made from two Single Docking Stations joined together in the centre. When installed correctly the Double Docking Station is kept rigid by what it is affixed to eg. brick, concrete or wood wall or floor, Vehicle Fixing Kit Steel Bracket, Marine Ply, 6mm Ply / Craft Wood, 3mm Steel Plate and other surfaces not mentioned.

We suggest what ever type of fixing you decide to use to install the Double Docking Station, you place fixings in a minimum of the 5 pre-drilled holes on both sides of each Single Docking Station that makes up the Double Docking Station.

NB: That suggests we recommend placing your chosen fixing in all 20 pre-drilled fixing holes to install a Double Docking Station.

NB: If the pre-drilled fixing holes in either the Single or Double Docking Station are not large enough for your selected fixings eg. screws / bolts etc. it is ok to enlarge the holes by using a high speed steel drill, the same diameter as your fixings.

This ensures, if a thief did find your Passport Safe it would be practically impossible to prize it away from the surface it is fitted to eg. brick, concrete, wood wall or floor, to the floor in a caravan or motor home or secured in a Vehicle Fixing Kit plus any other surfaces not mentioned.

The Following Are Only Suggestions Of Typical Installations

Installing a Single or Double Docking Station to a wood surface.

• Coach Bolts, Coach Screws, Type 17 Tek Screws or a minimum 8 gauge full thread wood screws, as long as possible. NB: Make suitable allowance for the thickness of the attaching medium when deciding on the fixing length.
  
  
• Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic, water based) plus the fixings as outlined above.

Installing a Single or Double Docking Station to a metal surface.

• Coach Bolts, Coach Screws, special one way Security Screws, Tek Screws, large diameter Steel Pop Rivets, Self Tapers / Metal Thread Screws.
  
  
• Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic, water based) plus the fixings as outlined above.

Installing a Single or Double Docking Station to a marble surface, generally under a kitchen bench top.

• Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic, water based) may be used, however we highly recommend you contact your kitchen manufacturer for their recommendation.

Installing a Single or Double Docking Station to a brick or concrete surface.

• Specific heavy duty masonry fixings.
  
  
• Loxins as the bolt head stays consistent as the bolt is tightened.
  
  
• Acrylic glue (Fuller Max Bond Construction Adhesive. Fast Grip 420g, must be Acrylic, water based) plus the fixings as outlined above.
  
  

NB: If you every intend moving the Docking Station to another location we suggest you DO NOT use Acrylic glue. Using Acrylic glue is for a permanent fixing of a Docking Station.

Installing a Vehicle Fixing Kit to a vehicle.

• Type 17 Wood Tek Screws full thread 5/16” hex head drive. The reason we suggest Wood Tek Screws instead of Metal Tek Screws is; Wood Tek Screws have a higher pitch between the threads than Metal Tek Screws and has less chance of stripping when screwing them in. We do highly recommend placing a fixing in every pre-drilled hole in the Vehicle Fixing Kit Steel Bracket when installing to the floor / chassis of the vehicle as per the picture to your right.
